Coffee table size: two-thirds of the sofa
Your coffee table should be ⅔ of your sofa.
Measure the sofa arm to arm and take about two-thirds: an 84″ sofa takes a table around 56″, a 72″ sofa around 48″. Pick a height of 16–18″, level with the seat or up to 2″ lower, and place it 14–18″ from the seat so you can reach a drink but still walk past. With an L-shaped sectional, a round or square table reaches both sides.
